Nechako Lakes School District 91 is the recipient of $45,000 in an educational partnership fund from a Canadian mining company.
A representative from Toronto-based Centerra Gold presented the donation in a ceremony attended by Manu Madhok, according to a District 91 press release on Nov. 22.
The funds will be used over the next three years for professional development and environmental educational programs including the Streamkeepers program which works on restoring streams and their ecosystems.
鈥淎t present all our high schools are involved with Streamkeepers and we are working on initiatives to bring the elementary school on board as well,鈥 Mike Skinner, Assistant Superintendent with the istrict told Lakes District 亚洲天堂.
鈥淪tudent resources such as the Streamkeeper kits and transportation are funded with our community support,鈥 he added.
Funding from Centerra Gold in previous years helped the istrict kick start its Streamkeeper program, and the latest donation will help sustain the environmental stewardship initiative.
鈥淪upporting our schools and students through strong partnerships with community agencies, local businesses and post secondary partners only makes our school programming more engaging and relevant, a key goal for all our schools,鈥 Madhok said.
