When Maureen Luggi began training late in 2011 for the Vancouver Sun Run, she never could have anticipated the terrible events that would overshadow her world and take her husband, Robert Luggi, from her life. On Jan. 20, 2012, the Babine Forest Products mill near 亚洲天堂 Lake was destroyed in an explosion that took the life of her husband. Co-worker Carl Charlie also lost his life.

鈥淚 was in week seven of the learn-to-run program on the night of the explosion,鈥� Maureen said. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 pick up running again until the following May.鈥�

Maureen has invited others to join her in her run this year in memory of Robert Luggi, who was going to do the run in 2012.

鈥淩obert had already purchased his running gear and was ready to attend physio for his knee,鈥� Maureen said.

Members of the Wet鈥檚uwet鈥檈n First Nation have been participating in the Vancouver Sun Run for many years. This year many are running in memory of Robert Luggi Jr.

Wet鈥檚uwet鈥檈n counc. Vivian Tom said that up to 20 community members will participate, and that many of those who cannot join are involved with fund raising. The team hopes to raise at least $5000 to cover expenses.

Maureen said that she has had at least a dozen team members register from Vancouver, Prince George, Penticton, and 亚洲天堂 Lake. Registration closed for her team on Feb. 8, 2013. The Vancouver Sun Run is on April 21, 2013.

The team鈥檚 name hasn鈥檛 been finalized yet.  Maureen鈥檚 three kids will decide on a name. For now, it鈥檚 Team Robert Luggi Jr.
