Local resident and Skin Tyee Nation elder Gordon Skin said he is saddened by the thoughtless destruction of an ancient Skin Tyee Nation burial site recently.
Skin said he was alerted to the situation at the remote gravesite on the Southside by a good friend who, while horseback riding made the discovery.
"My wife and I went to check and sure enough, the site had been destroyed," he said.
Skin said he has great uncles buried at the site as well as his aunty's baby brothers.
"There is plenty of graves there, dating back to the 1800 to 1900s"
According to Skin the graveyard had been fixed up and fenced in 1999 by Skin Tyee Nation and on his most recent visit he discovered that the fences had been smashed down, along with countless grave markers.
"It looks as though someone has driven through the fence with a four wheel drive and smashed everything down ... I was very hurt to see this has happened. These people my not have any heart or guilt for what they have done," he added.
Skin said he has brought the matter to the attention of the band, but wanted to bring the matter forward so that people are aware of what has happened.
"Cows are starting to get in and are causing more damage to the site ... we need to put up metal fences this time ... but we shouldn't have to do that to keep the area safe," he added.
Skin said the matter has not yet been reported to the 亚洲天堂 Lake RCMP.
