Communities across British Columbia looking to boost their outdoor recreational activities can now apply to the Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC.
The application period opened on March 28 and will remain open until April 30. According to a press release from the fund, the grants support 鈥渃ommunity-based initiatives that create and shape meaningful outdoor recreational and nature-based experiences for British Columbians.鈥
The press release further explained that in 2023, the province contributed a one-time grant of $10 million to the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC which led to the establishment of the endowment fund, The Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC. This endowment fund will be a 鈥減erpetual funding source for the grant program.鈥
鈥淏y investing in access, inclusivity, education and stewardship, we aim to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy and appreciate the natural beauty of British Columbia,鈥 said executive director, Louise Pedersen in the press release.
The fund鈥檚 website details that the following organizations should consider applying:
鈥egistered charities and incorporated non-profit organizations
鈥ocal governments in BC
鈥ndigenous governments in BC
The media release explained the following applicants should consider applying:
鈥lign with the purpose of the fund
鈥lign with one (or more) of the three priorities
鈥re ready-to-go which means that any required authorizations are in place before applying
鈥ake place in British Columbia
鈥he project takes place in natural settings鈥攕uch as parks, trails, and natural aquatic areas鈥攁nd does not include activities that take place in highly cultivated recreation areas (such as playgrounds, skate parks or sports fields)
鈥rojects that can be completed before March 2025 will be preferred
The media release also noted that a 50 per cent matching contribution is necessary and that it can be fulfilled with the following:
鈥onetary contributions from other sources
鈥onated materials at verified fair market value
鈥onated accredited professional services at verified fair market value
鈥olunteer labour at $20/hour
