The Lakes District child care society, on behalf of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Play School were the recent beneficiaries of $6,300 in provincial government community gaming grants.
The ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake group was one of more than 1,700 groups receiving more than $32 million in community gaming grants.
According to Cathy Moffat, ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Play School supervisor and teacher, the grant funding will help the play school to purchase new equipment and help to fund operational costs.
"The funding will help us to enhance the play school," Moffat added.
This round of community gaming grants builds on $29.7 million provided to 870 other human and social services sector organizations earlier this year, including $19.7 million under multi-year funding commitments, bringing the total gaming grants handed out in 2010-2011 to almost $62 million.
In all, the province has budgeted $120 million for community gaming grants in 2010-2011 which is $7.4 million more than last year and has already allocated almost all of this funding.
The gaming grants will help fund approximately 6,000 organizations that support people in need, education, youth, arts, sports, public safety, and parent and district advisory councils.
The province considers applications for community gaming grants four times a year, with each intake devoted to a specific sector.
