A great night of affordable family fun.
This, according to Lakes District Secondary School (LDSS) drama and dance teacher Rayanne Charlie, is what those attending the school's up and coming events can expect.
Charlie's Grade 9 and 10 classes are currently working on two plays. The first of which, Hyronomous A. Frog is the story of the Frog Prince.
The cast of 10 have been working hard to design and make their own costumes and rehearsing to get their lines down for opening night.
Two afternoon shows will also be held and students from Decker Lake Elementary School, William Konkin Elementary School and Francois Lake Elementary School have been invited free of charge.
"We want to build a rapport with the kids, get them involved and make sure that everyone is able to see a play ... we want to encourage the community to see these talented students," Charlie said.
"The month of June is a families month, we have geared the performances towards the young ones ... the performances are family friendly and very affordable," she added.
Local resident and past LDSS drama and dance student Jordi Johnson volunteered her time to create the sets for the play.
The hour long show tells the fairy tale story of a frog who is told by a witch that to become a prince he must get a princess to kiss him willingly .... however the princess he is dealing with is a brat.
Will he or won't he get the kiss he needs to turn into a prince?
For some of the students it is their first time on stage.
Drama students said they have made new friends and connected with other students that they would not usually have crossed paths with at school.
The second play that is due to hit the LDSS stage next month is called Never City.
Charlie said the play, which will also be performed by the Grade 9 and 10 class has a number of morals and features a coyote and a stinky skunk. The play is set in downtown Vancouver in a fictitious place called Never City. It is about homelessness and street art.
Never City will hit the LDSS stage on June 15 and 17. Hyronomous A. Frog will be performed tonight and 3 with both shows starting at 7 p.m.
