On Dec. 1 at 1 p.m., the first performance of The Met: Live In HD Opera will show at the Beacon Theatre. The presentation will be Puccini's masterpiece, Tosca.
Puccini’s timeless verismo score is well served by an exceptional cast, led by Patricia Racette in the title role of the jealous diva, opposite Roberto Alagna as her lover, Cavaradossi. George Gagnidze is the villainous Scarpia.
The Met: Live in HD has set the standard for live presentation of opera on movie screens all over the world. The performance, in Italian with English subtitles on the screen, tells the story of the doomed love of the singer Floria Tosca for the painter Mario Cavaradossi. Tosca also features Baron Scarpia, one of the greatest villains in all of opera. And in Act II, Tosca boasts one of opera's most famous scenes, which a critic of the time called Puccini's "shabby little shocker".
Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for children under 12. A limited number of Arts-4-Youth tickets will be available for students. Tickets will be sold at the door.
