A spokesman for the Lakes District Film Society, the non-profit organization that operates the Beacon Theatre, said the society has signed a contract with Cineplex Entertainment to present the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Company at the Beacon Theatre on Sept. 22.
The presentation will be delivered utilizing the theatre鈥檚 state of the art digital projector and satellite system.
鈥淲e鈥檙e incredibly excited to be able to offer this dynamic musical comedy, which won a record setting six Tony Awards,鈥 said film society president Michael Riis-Christianson.
鈥淚t鈥檚 part of our commitment to provide Lakes District residents with access to the best the entertainment industry has to offer.鈥
Company, which features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is the humorous story of a single man unable to commit to a steady relationship.
Based on 11 one act plays by George Furth, it was one of the first Broadway productions to deal with adult problems through music.
Company first opened on Broadway in April 1970 and ran for 705 performances and seven previews, making it one of the most successful musicals of all time.
Revived in 2007, it won yet another Tony for best revival of a musical.
鈥淐ompany promises to be very special event,鈥 Riis-Christianson said.
鈥淭his is why our society felt it was so important to convert the Beacon Theatre to digital projection. We couldn鈥檛 offer programming of this type if we were still utilizing our 1950鈥檚 35 millimetre system."
Company is the first offering in our 2011 Direct From Broadway season.
"We plan to follow it up in October with the 25 anniversary performance of Phantom of the Opera,鈥 he noted.
Tickets to the event are available at Process 4 circle arts Gallery and the Beacon Theatre.
