B.C. Wildfire Service crews remain at the scene of a fire this morning first reported yesterday afternoon in the Little Oliver Creek area about 45 kilometres northeast of Terrace.

The cause of the fire, listed late yesterday at 15 hectares and updated to 70 hectares today (July 9), is not known but is under investigation. It is highly visible from Hwy 16.

Two initial attack crews of four people each, two fire officers, two groups of air tankers and one helicopter were assigned to the fire as of late yesterday afternoon, the wildfire service reports.

One of the initial attack crews is from Terrace and one from Telkwa and one of the crews camped at the site last night.

Five more people are at the location this morning along with a helicopter and heavy equipment. The equipment is being used to build a guard around the fire.

Yesterday's aircraft assigned to the fire included four skimmers which skim along the surface of a lake to fill their tanks with water, three tankers and a birddog aircraft. The birddog aircraft guides skimmers and tankers to better drop their loads.

Temperatures have been high in the area the past several days and are expected to remain high today.

Campfires are allowed but open fires that are larger than six feet tall and nine feet in width are not.
