Christmas is coming and it our locals need our support

Last week we seemed to get a bit of everything with the weather.

Last week we seemed to get a bit of everything with the weather; rain, snow, a chinook and some bad winds. Mark Twain once said 鈥渆veryone talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it.鈥 Maybe a good thing too.

One thing we don鈥檛 want is to have frost before we get snow. What does happen if the ground is frozen the spring runoff will runoff instead off going into the ground. This has happened before.

Our hill was like a skating rink. But this morning it has cleared off and it鈥檚 not so dangerous.

December is just around the corner and I wonder if there will be any Christmas concerts.

A few years back every little school would have a concert, it was so looked for. We would drive miles to see a school concert. There would always be a nativity play to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Now with all the red tape and regulations the meaning of Christmas is put by the wayside.

When I was going to school in Saskatchewan we would sing Christmas carols during class and the teacher would read us the Christmas story.

We enjoyed every minute of and looked forward to Christmas at school. It comes up in my memory like it was yesterday. Sure didn鈥檛 do us any harm either.

Happy Birthday

Last week I had the pleasure to be invited to the Cheslatta Carrier Nation for a dinner to celebrate Hoyt Burt鈥檚 92 birthday. Hoyt still is keeping his age very well. I have known Hoyt and his family for well over 60 years. Lots of his old friends were there too. It was a lovely dinner and afterwards a huge birthday cake.

The hall it self has so many old pictures of so many who have gone. These pictures go back many years and are so interesting at least for me as I remember some of them.

Also I must not forget to mention with a big thank you to the Cheslatta Carrier Nation for delivering me such a nice load of wood.

The weather took another turn and gave us a heavy rain, but a little snow this morning has helped us all. Made it a bit safer for us old boys. One bad fall it would be like Charlie Darter used to say 鈥渂ar the door Katy, because I鈥檓 coming home in pieces.鈥

Interesting history

After I read the interesting article by Kerry Guenter put in regarding the history I just had to dig up some more history of 亚洲天堂 Lake so I picked up an article called the history of 亚洲天堂 Lake by Barney Mulvaney. It just seems to fit in with the article that Kerry put in. 亚洲天堂 Lake has so much history about the town, it鈥檚 really very interesting.

Sad news

It was rather a shock this last week to hear of the deaths of two of our local men who spent all their lives in our Lakes District.

Sandy Durban the son of Clarence and Gloria Durban. Sandy had made his home in later years in Prince George. He leaves family and many friends both in Prince George and Grassy Plains.

Then to hear of the passing of Stanley Nelson. Stanley made his home in the Lakes District and 亚洲天堂 Lake for many years. He made his home with his family in Vernon. He also leaves his family and many friends especially in 亚洲天堂 Lake and the Palling and Rose Lake district as he was very active in the logging business and trucking as well. The loss of both these men has left our district in shock as their families are so well known and liked by so many.

Shopping

The number of flyers that keep coming through the mail a person wonders if they will ever stop.

Last week I counted 16 different flyers most from Prince George. It must cost a lot of dollars not only to make them up but to send them out. Lots of locals do shop in Prince George. Prices are no doubt cheaper but the price of fuel in the long run if added on to the groceries or what ever must work out even. It鈥檚 no doubt a bit of an outing as well and a bigger variety to choose from.

Our local stores seem to have a good stock of Christmas merchandise and very fair prices and its local as well. 亚洲天堂 Lake is our town and it needs your support to keep going and the more it grows the better it will be for us all.

A little story

They walked in tandem, each of the 92 students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With their rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Mums freely brushed away tears.

This class would not pray during the commencements, but not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it. The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling.

They gave inspirational and challenging speeches but no one mentioned the divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice but they were routine until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly sneezed. The student on the stage simply looked at the audience and said 鈥淕od bless you, each and every one of you.鈥

And he walked off stage..., the audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a unique way to involve God鈥檚 blessing on their future with or without the courts approval.

Isn鈥檛 this a wonderful story.

Take care as the roads are icy and all the walkways are too so tread with care.

A broken hip or arm can do some damage so my advice is watch where you step. Always remember God always loves you and so do I.
