I just wanted to share this poem.
It is call called 鈥楾he Prayer of Cyrus Brown鈥, written by Sam Walter Foss (1858-1911).
鈥淭he proper way for a man to pray,鈥 said deacon Lemuel Keyes.
鈥淎nd the only proper attitude, is down upon his knees.鈥
鈥淣o, I should say the way to pray,鈥
Said Rev. Doctor Wise, 鈥淚s standing straight with outstretched arms, and rapt and upturned eyes.鈥
鈥淥h, no, no, no,鈥 said Elder Slow, 鈥淪uch posture is too proud, a man should pray with eyes fast closed, and head contritely bowed.鈥
鈥淚t seems to me his hands should be, austerely clasped in front,
With both thumbs pointing toward the ground,鈥
Said Rev. Doctor Blunt.
鈥淟as鈥 year I fell in Hodgkin鈥檚 well head first,鈥 said Cyrus Brown,
鈥淲ith both my heels a-stickin鈥 up, my head a-pinting down, an鈥 I made a prayer right then and there,
Best prayer I ever said, the prayingest prayer I ever prayed,
A-standing on my head.鈥
