鈥淏lessed鈥 is one of the most common words in the Bible. It is defined as 鈥渋nward happiness that comes from a life made straight, upright or level.鈥
How is one鈥檚 life made level?
God has the answer: 鈥淏lessed are those who do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the pathway of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scorners; but their delight is in the Word of God, and they meditate in it day and night.
They shall be like trees planted by the rivers of water, who bring forth fruit in season, and whose leaves also shall not wither; and whatever they do shall prosper鈥- (Psalm 1).
Every carpenter knows the importance of building with a level. In the same way, every life needs the 鈥渓evel鈥 of God鈥檚 Word to be applied to it in order to experience life as God intended it to be.
Jesus was also a carpenter. He said: 鈥淲hoever hears these saying of mine, and does them, I will liken him to wise man, who built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not, for it was founded upon the rock.
And everyone who hears these sayings of mine and does not do them, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; and the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it鈥 鈥 (Matthew 7:24-27).
If Jesus were a mere human, these words would be arrogant delusions.
But his miracles and resurrection prove the truth of his claim to be the Son of God. 鈥淏lessed are all they who put their trust in him.鈥
