An air quality advisory was issued for the Lakes District area on Oct. 25 due to elevated pollution levels.

The advisory, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy and Northern Health Authority, said the conditions caused by elevated levels of fine particulate matter in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake area are expected to persist until a change in weather occurs.

Individuals with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, COPD, heart disease, and diabetes, as well as pregnant women, infants, and older adults, are advised to limit strenuous activities. Symptoms such as eye or throat irritation, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, cough, or wheezing should prompt individuals to seek guidance from healthcare providers. Staying indoors is recommended to reduce exposure.

Additionally, open burning restrictions are in effect for ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake and surrounding areas until 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 26, prohibiting new fires and the addition of material to existing fires.

Residents, especially children and those with pre-existing lung conditions, are urged to take precautions as air pollution can exacerbate health issues.
