Prince Rupert RCMP have confirmed a violent incident in the early morning hours of Sept. 26 was a homicide.
At approximately 6:10 a.m. Thursday police and paramedics responded to a stabbing of a male victim at his residence in the 600 block of 7th Ave West.
"Despite life-saving measures at the scene by RCMP and EHS (Emergency Health Services), the 56-year victim died of his injuries at the hospital a short time later," stated a press release this morning (Sept. 27).
Prince Rupert detachment commander Insp. Gerry Walker said no arrests have been made and would not say if they have any specific suspects at this time.
He did confirm, however, that the investigation indicated there was no danger to the general public.
"Police are requesting anyone with information, noticed suspicious persons or vehicles in the area at that time to contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at (250) 624-2136," the press release said.
The investigation is being led by the Prince Rupert General Investigation Section with assistance from the North District Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Section and Terrace General Investigation Section.
This is the first homicide reported in Prince Rupert in 2024.
