The 亚洲天堂 Lake & District Healthcare Auxiliary continues to raise funds for the community through their thrift store.
Thanks to the efforts of the 100 per cent volunteer-run organization, the auxiliary was able to help raise enough funds to purchase a new diagnostic imaging ultrasound machine worth over $220,000 for the Lakes District Hospital and Health Care Centre. The machine was installed last month.
Substantial donations were made from the estates of Johnny Johnson and Ruth Ridler, as well as a golf ball drop fundraiser which was spearheaded by the late Johnson.
"We are always fundraising in our community, mostly through our thrift shop where our volunteers work very hard with donations form our community," said auxiliary president Jeanie Reimer. "This is our ongoing fundraiser all year-round."
The ongoing fundraising efforts are appreciated by the community, as they are always eager to chip in and help.
"Our community is fantastic with their support," Reimer said. "They know that all money raised stays in our community."
The auxiliary has had many fundraising events for special items like the ultrasound machine over the years, such as the Rambler bus for the residents at the Pines Long Term Care Home.
The hospital presents a list of requests at auxiliary meetings so the organization can plan their next fundraisers accordingly. A list of requests from the past three years is posted in the thrift store, which allows the community to see exactly what causes their money and donations have gone towards.
