Firefighters from 亚洲天堂 Lake and Houston have been sent to the States to assist with the devastating wildfires in California.

The team from B.C. is made up of firefighters from across the province, including two supervisors from the Nadina Fire Zone and two supervisors from the Northwest Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) senior management team arrived in Los Angeles on Jan. 11 and started working right away. They are supporting various efforts, such as planning, logistics, operations, aviation, fire weather, communications and other crucial roles. 

An additional 22 BCWS crew members, including the four supervisors from the 亚洲天堂 Lake and Houston, convened earlier this week and drove down to L.A. to provide additional wildland firefighting support alongside American crews. They arrived midday on Jan. 16 and were briefed. The ministry expects them to join the fire line later this week.

Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests, met with the team before they were deployed to L.A.

"I met with the BC Wildfire Service to talk about the impacts of the California fires and how they're informing B.C.'s preparations as we head into the 2025 wildfire season," he said. "Our top priority is keeping people safe, and we continue to strengthen our provincial and community capacity for wildfire mitigation."
