Crews continue to battle two 'out of control' wildfires discovered near ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake on Aug.8.

At 3.6 hectares Maxan Lake wildfire is approximately 19 kilometres west of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, and Tibbets Creek wildfire at 0.8 hectares, is approximately 21 kilometres east of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake. They were both discovered on August 8.

However, these fires are not currently threatening any communities, said BC Wildfire Service.

In addition, a wildfire on the north side of Babine Lake, was discovered on August 8. This fire is being monitored and BC Wildfire Service said its staff will reassess it later today (Aug. 9).

"Yesterday, Initial Attack Crews responded to both of these new fires, with support from helicopters bucketing water on the fires and air tankers to box the fire in with retardant," BCWS told Lakes District ÑÇÖÞÌìÌÃ.

As of Aug. 9,  an Initial Attack Crew and two officers are responding to Maxan Lake wildfire along with heavy equipment.

On Tibbets Creek wildfire, an Initial Attack Crew and a Contract Crew of firefighters are responding.

A helicopter is available to support crews as required. Crews are building control lines and using direct attack by applying water to the fire. Out of control means the fire is not yet contained and is therefore anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter. Crews are currently working to contain the fires, said BCWS

While crews were actively engaged in fires in the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake area, a fire 30 kilometres south of Houston fire department boundary was reported by the BC Wildfire Service Aug. 8 as 'being held'.

First discovered Aug. 7, the wildfire service initially sent a helicopter to the scene to assist one of its initial attack crews and contracted firefighting crew.

As of Aug. 8, the initial attack crew and the contract crew were limiting the spread of the 1.7 hectare blaze.  The  firefighters continue to search for and extinguish remaining hot spots, moving toward the centre of the fire, said BCWS.
