Southside Multigenerational Community Band
Announcing a new multigenerational community band beginning this fall on the Southside of Francois Lake, sponsored by Alban Classical Society. 鈥淚ntroduction to Oil Painting鈥: An art course with Dale Kallhood
The Lakes District Museum is presenting an art course taught by local artist Dale Kallhood: 鈥淎n Introduction to Oil Painting鈥. The course runs from September 18th to Oct. 23, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Heritage Gallery in 亚洲天堂 Lake on Highway 16 next to the Visitor Information Centre. Cost of the course is $125.00, which includes materials. Don鈥檛 delay: only 10 seats are available in this course, and deadline for registration is Thursday, September 12th at 4:30 pm. The GR8-BY-8 Art Project
The Lakes District Museum and Heritage Gallery is holding a fundraising project. The GR8-BY-8 Art Project invites artists of all levels to create original works of art on 8鈥 x 8" canvases.The compact yet impactful pieces serve as a way for artists to express their creativity in a wide range of subjects. Stop by and purchase your canvas from the Lakes District Museum, and donate your finished painting by September 20th. The project has categories for kids, teens and adults. There is a range of cash prizes, plus the winning entries will be judged and exhibited at The Heritage Galley in October, before being auctioned off in November. 44th Annual Terry Fox Run
The 44th Annual Terry Fox Run happens Sunday, September 15th at the Francois Lake Hall. Registration is 12:00 noon, with the run/walk/ride starting at 1:00 pm. There will be live entertainment, a concession, door prizes, and the popular Silent Harvest Auction. Volunteers and donations are welcome and encouraged. As you likely know, The Terry Fox Run is in support of cancer research, with this year鈥檚 motto: 鈥橬o Matter What鈥. Announcing the 24/25 series of Met Opera broadcasts at The Beacon Theatre
The 24/25 season of Met Opera: Live in HD broadcasts, co-presented by the Lakes District Arts Council and The Beacon Theatre, is coming this fall, winter and spring. The season opens in November 2024 with a Met premier of the new opera Grounded, starring Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D鈥橝ngelo. The series continues after the Christmas holidays with Puccini鈥檚 dramatic opera Tosca in January 2025; Verdi鈥檚 Aida in March; Beethoven鈥檚 Fidelio in April; Mozart鈥檚 Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) in May; and concludes with Rossini鈥檚 Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) in June.
