Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Nov. 19 for much of northern B.C.and interior as very windy conditions are expected to develop today and continue through Wednesday due to the so called 'bomb' cyclone hitting Vancouver Island and the British Columbia coast.
The affected areas include the South Okanagan, Nicola, Fraser Canyon - South, South Thompson, 100 Mile, Highway 97 (Clinton to 100 Mile House), Chilcotin, Cariboo, Prince George, Stuart - Nechako, Lakes District, Bulkley Valley, and Williston.
A significant fall storm will bring intense winds to these regions, with a low-pressure system approaching the Coast, the weather agency said in its statement. The system will rapidly deepen late today, then curl northward on Wednesday, remaining offshore throughout the event.
Winds will begin to increase through the afternoon, with peak gusts expected tonight. Strong winds are likely to continue on Wednesday, but should ease by the evening,
These strong winds could cause damage, including downed trees and broken tree limbs, and residents should be prepared for potential power outages.
Travel disruptions may also occur due to hazardous conditions, particularly on highways. It is advised to secure any loose outdoor objects, as the gusty winds could cause them to be blown away.
