Residents of lands and properties accessed by Ootsa Nadina Road and local roads, south and east of the Rainbow Lake recreation site, and west of Skins Lake and the spillway should be prepared to evacuate.
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako issued the alert last night because of the threat to life and health from the Mount Wells wildfire.
The alert includes properties accessed by Keefes Landing Rd (Within 1km of Steinhoff Road) and Eakins Settlement Rd (Within 1km of Spud Lake Rd).
The regional district said residents will be given as much advance notice as possible if evacuation is required, however, if conditions change, notice could be short.
The Mount Wells wildfire was first discovered Aug. 10 and is currently estimated at over 14,000 hectares.
"Increased fire behaviour is being observed on R12015. While the fire remains within the Tweedsmuir Park boundaries on the south side of Ootsa Lake, fire activity this afternoon is contributing to the heavy smoke drifting east over Francios Lake up into the Omenica and Peace region," the wildfire service said in an update Sept 7.
BC Wildfire Service is using a "monitored response" for this fire meaning it is monitoring it, but not engaging is suppression activities.
