Construction work is underway on Government Street to replace the aging curb, gutter, and sidewalk infrastructure.
The project, managed by Granite Excavating, involves tearing down the old asphalt sidewalk, which was built on inadequate base gravel without proper drainage or correct catch basins, said Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake Chief Administrative Officer Sheryl Worthing.
The new construction will feature a concrete sidewalk with proper base gravels, new curb and gutter, and updated drainage systems.
Additionally, the road will also be widened to create more parking space on both sides, added Worthing.
The work is expected to be completed by September 30, 2024.
The total cost for the project is projected at $900,000, with $500,000 funded through a Provincial Active Transportation Grant.
The final phase of construction will include paving from 4th Avenue to the Government Street Bridge, and asphalt patching beside the new sidewalk sections.
This final stage will be managed by Terus Construction and is scheduled to begin mid-September, weather permitting, Worthing said.
Government Street will be closed from 4th Avenue to Highway16 until all work is completed.
