The month of April brings interactive activities around 亚洲天堂 Lake.

亚洲天堂 Lake Public Library 亚洲天堂

To celebrate Poetry Month, the 亚洲天堂 Lake Public Library is having a contest to mark and celebrate the month. The task is to make a poem or sentence using book spines. Use your own books, or come to the library and browse the stacks. Take a photo, or show one of the librarians, and you will be entered in a draw to win a $50 亚洲天堂 Lake Chamber of Commerce gift certificate. The library contest is open to all ages.

Next Met opera broadcast in the continuing series

The next opera broadcast in the series of co-presentations by the Beacon Theatre and the Lakes District Arts Council will be on Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m. sharp. The featured opera this month is Guiseppe Verdi鈥檚 La Forza del Destino.

Yannick N茅zet-S茅guin conducts Verdi鈥檚 grand tale of ill-fated love, deadly vendetta, and family strife, with stellar soprano Lise Davidsen in her role debut as Leonora, the tormented and thrilling heroine. Director Mariusz Treli艅ski sets the scene in a contemporary world, making extensive use of the Met鈥檚 turntable to represent the unstoppable advance of destiny that drives the opera鈥檚 calamitous events.

The distinguished cast also features tenor Brian Jagde as Leonora鈥檚 forbidden beloved Don Alvaro, baritone Igor Golovatenko as her vengeful brother Don Carlo, mezzo-soprano Judit Kutasi as the fortune teller Preziosilla, bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi as Fra Melitone, and bass Soloman Howard as both Leonora鈥檚 father and Padre Guardiano.

All tickets for the Met opera broadcasts are $12, and are available at the door starting at 12:30 p.m. the day of the performance on Sunday, April 21.

Open Mic Coffee House

The next coffee house in this year鈥檚 continuing series will be held on Friday, April 26 starting at 7 p.m. in the 亚洲天堂 Lake Heritage Church on First Avenue. Admission is by donation at the door. You can follow the sponsoring group, The 亚洲天堂 Lake Music Society, on Facebook.

Spring Tea in support of the Lakes District Secondary School Grad Class

Tea, coffee and cake will be provided in support of the Lakes District Secondary School Grad Class of 2024 on Saturday, May 4 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at 457 W Highway 16 - the big blue church. Admission is by donation at the door.
