Tuesday, Mar. 18 marked the beginning of Mills Memorial Hospital's long-awaited demolition.
"Abatement has been going on inside the hospital for the past couple months now, which is kind of like removing all the materials, but [Mar. 18] was the start of the exterior structure coming down," said Mark Hendricks, communications lead for Northern Health.
Northern Health expects for the deconstruction to take two to three months.
"We'll be using mechanical demolition equipment, cranes, excavators, things like that. We won't be using any wrecking balls or explosions," said Hendricks with a laugh. "I've had several people ask me if we're going to blow it up, before we even got there."
Mills Memorial Hospital served Terrace for over 60 years, from 1962-2024.
