RCMP is seeking public assistance in locating 6-year-old Oaklynn Schweder who was reported missing from her residence on Southbank, near ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake on Sept. 19.
Oaklynn was last seen outside her residence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. She was wearing a red/blue plaid dress, leggings with white bowties and pink socks, the police said in their statement.
Oaklynn is on the autism spectrum and is non-verbal.
Police have numerous resources in the area, including Search and Rescue (SAR) liaising with Oaklynn’s family and looking for her. Along with SAR, the RCMP K9 units, are also on ground. Despite a nightlong search, Oaklynn was not found.
Last evening, Oaklynn's mother, Gail Skin reached out to the community, on social media, for assistance in the search. Earlier today (Sept. 20), Skin took to social media to update volunteers that the RCMP and SAR teams are all assembled at the Skin Tyee band office at Campbell Road. For those who wish to volunteer for search parties, they can follow the signs going up from the ferry landing to the band office.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Oaklynn is urged to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Editor's note: This story has been updated to correct the age and spelling of the name. Earlier, the article reported that Oaklynn was 7 years old and misspelled the name Schweder, based on information from an RCMP statement.
