Federal election candidates in the Skeena鈥擝ulkley Valley riding are asking their supporters to play fair after an election sign was vandalized in Kitimat.
Someone spray-painted "D--- Head" on a large sign for Taylor Bachrach over the weekend of March 29. Bachrach is the incumbent NDP Member of Parliament for the riding.
"I wish I could say this kind of thing doesn鈥檛 bother me. Of course it does. I鈥檓 human," Bachrach said in a Facebook post featuring a photo of the vandalized sign on March 29.
He asked his supporters not to retaliate against other candidates and parties.
"Please don鈥檛 damage Conservative signs. It鈥檚 a downward spiral that leads nowhere," he said. "If this makes you angry, put on your shoes. Go talk to your neighbours. Come build some more signs! Help us get out the vote for the kind of Canada we can be proud of."
Bachrach's Conservative opponent, Ellis Ross, also noted his dissatisfaction with the vandalism. Pundits are calling B.C. a battleground between the NDP and Conservatives in this election, and the Conservatives are predicted to win the Skeena鈥擝ulkley Valley riding according to a model run by the polling aggregator website 338Canada.
"I get the emotions around politics and how signs get stolen or tore down, but please avoid this type of vandalism," Ross said in a Facebook post on March 29. "Taylor has put his name forward to serve more than once and he has family that sees this."
