The Northwest Fire Centre is currently managing eight active wildfires, including three in the Nadina Fire Zone south of Ootsa Lake, encompassing 亚洲天堂 Lake and Houston.
The past week has seen a surge in wildfire activity following significant lightning storms, accompanied by varying precipitation levels. Since last Friday, 16 new fires were reported. However, thanks to swift responses from Initial Attack Crews, 12 of these fires have been extinguished, and one has been moved to a 'Being Held' status.
Recent cooler weather, which settled in on Tuesday, has reduced the activity on many of the fires within the centre. Despite this, fire crews continue their efforts on several fronts.
The British Columbia Wildfire Service (BCWS) currently has additional crews from outside the province.
National and international firefighting personnel assisting in BC include one sustained action crew from Nova Scotia, five unit crews from Ontario, two Incident Management Teams from Australia, approximately 30 single resources from Australia and New Zealand,
nine Initial Attack crews and six single resources from the Yukon.
In an update provided by BCWS on July 23, the two fires detected near 亚洲天堂 Lake airport following a recent storm are now actively managed and classified as under control.
As of July 25, The Michel Creek fire (R11201) has grown to 10,432 hectares, extending into areas previously burned in 2014 and 2021. The R11204 fire has reached 7,754 hectares. Both fires are contributing to smoke that is affecting visibility in the region. Additionally, the West Chief Louie Lake wildfire (R11239) 185 hectares, continues to be actively addressed by crews, though visibility issues have hampered efforts.
Current ground resources include five Initial Attack crews (three in Houston, two in 亚洲天堂 Lake). In addition two, five-person contract crews are on standby in 亚洲天堂 Lake along with a 20-person unit crew stationed at Takysie, focusing on R11239 and ready to respond to new starts.
