Police believe fatal Haida Gwaii vehicle-pedestrian collision was targeted

Daajing Giids RCMP responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 200 block of Front Street in Skidegate at 1:17 p.m on April 22, 2025.

The North District Major Crime unit has launched an investigation in Skidegate after a man died from injuries suffered in a pedestrian-vehicle collision.

鈥淭he investigation is in its infancy but police believe this was a targeted incident,鈥 said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.

On April 22 at 1:17 p.m., Daajing Giids RCMP responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 200 block of Front Street in Skidegate. The victim later died from the trauma.

The North District Major Crime Unit continues to lead the investigation into the suspicious death while the Daajing Giids RCMP remains on scene.

鈥淲e are asking anyone with any information to speak with police rather than post to social media,鈥 said SSgt. Clark.

Anyone with any information, including CCTV or dash camera video, can contact the Daajing Giids RCMP at 250-559-4421.

In response to the incident and its potential threat, the Skidegate Band Council imposed a curfew on the village from 10 p.m. on April 22 until 6 a.m. the following morning.
