A symposium aimed at addressing mental health and addictions issues from a north and central B.C. perspective will take place in Prince George on Nov. 13, 14 this year.
The North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA), Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, City of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George will all co-host the symposium. The NCLGA is the advocacy body for local government officials in north central British Columbia.
Over 40 local governments from 100 Mile House to the Yukon border, and from Haida Gwaii to Alberta, elect representatives to the association.
The event is titled 2024 Mental Health and Addictions Symposium: A Pathway Forward and will be held at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.
NCLGA is calling this a "landmark" event and said it will unite representatives from multiple agencies and governments to engage in comprehensive discussion and collaborative efforts to address mental health and addictions issues in central and northern B.C.
鈥淭he Mental Health and Addictions Symposium will benefit individuals, professionals, agencies, and communities by fostering an informed, connected, and supportive environment for mental health and addiction dialogue and initiatives," said city of Prince George mayor Simon Yu.
鈥淏y bringing together diverse stakeholders, we can create innovative solutions and build a stronger support system for individuals affected by mental health and addictions," said Judy Greenaway, NCLGA president. Greenaway said they hope the symposium will pave the way for meaningful change and better outcomes for people in the region.
