The province initiated Category two and three open fire prohibitions across the Bulkley Fire Zone and Nadina Fire Zone on March 28, effective at 12 p.m., to prevent human-caused wildfires and ensure public safety.

It also includes the Nadina Forest District and the Skeena portion of the Skeena/Stikine Forest District.

This prohibition applies to Category two and three open fires, which include fireworks, sky lanterns, burning one to two piles concurrently, each no larger than two metres high by three metres wide, or stubble or grass over an area less than 0.2 hectares. It also includes burning one or more windrows, stubble or grass over an area greater than 0.2 hectares.

Kaitlyn Bailey, BC Wildfire Service information assistant, said that earlier this month, there was an industry debris pile along the Granisle Highway. She said that an officer and crew from B.C. Wildfire went out to confirm that it was a smoldering pile and that the fire was now out.

She said there was also an abandoned grass fire 35 kilometers south of 亚洲天堂 Lake on Colleymount Road, and an officer and B.C. Wildfire Crew responded on March 20 to put it out.

鈥淩egarding the Holdover Tekaiziyis Ridge fire, industry found a smoldering pile of debris burning, and they responded to it. However, B.C. Wildfire conducted an infrared scan and detected hot spots in adjacent areas,鈥� she said.

鈥淲e continue to monitor them and develop a plan to put them out alongside industry. It is considered being held because there has been no fire behaviour or growth increase,鈥� she said.

Bailey informed that there are currently 21 firefighters back in the Nadina Zone, four stationed in Houston and 17 in 亚洲天堂 Lake.

鈥淲e anticipate to have 34 firefighters stationed in 亚洲天堂 Lake this summer and 13 in Houston for a total of 47 firefighters in the Nadina Fire Zone,鈥� she said.
