The property development company that purchased three lots near the intersection of Richmond Loop and Highway 16 in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake has worked on several major property developments in the Vancouver area.
Northstar Development purchased the three lots from the Village of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake this year. It's not clear yet what will be built on the lots, with Northstar Development saying that a project is in early planning stages and will be announced soon. However, Northstar Development has a track record of developing major commercial and residential properties, according to their website.
The developer lead the design and construction of Tsawwassen Mills, a large mall developed in partnership with Tsawwassen First Nation, on whose territory the mall was built after the Nation negotiated a self-governance treaty.
Northstar Development also did much of the early development work on the Oakridge Mall redevelopment project in Vancouver. While the project is under new ownership now and Northstar Development is not the active developer, their original vision for the project is being executed well, according to Northstar Development's website.
The redevelopment project is massive—"one of the most monumental redevelopments currently underway in North America given its sheer scale," according to marketing information from project owner QuadReal Property Group. Currently under construction on the site of the former Oakridge Mall, the development includes at least 10 mixed-use towers with commercial space on the bottom and residential condos atop. The development also includes a community centre, a 9-acre park and a Canada Line train station. The aim is to make Oakridge the new cultural and commercial centre of Vancouver, according to QuadReal Property Group.
In addition to these large projects, Northstar Development has completed or is working on three apartment buildings, an office redevelopment project in Downtown Vancouver, and an office building for the federal government.
Reached for comment, Northstar Development said they will announce plans for the Richmond Loop lots as soon as possible.
"We understand that there is interest in the future plans for this land," the company said in a statement. "We will be sure to keep [the community] informed as soon as there are updates we’re able to share."
