Nechako Lakes MLA and leader of the Conservative Party of BC, John Rustad, held a meet and greet in Vanderhoof this morning (Sept. 26).
The event took place at Bakkerji Lobelle, a local bakery, where Rustad delivered a speech outlining several of his party's election campaign promises. These included his recently announced plan to exempt $3,000 per month in rent and mortgage interest from provincial income taxes, remove the carbon tax, end the decriminalization of drugs, eliminate the SOGI curriculum from schools, and implement compassionate involuntary treatment for youth.
Rustad also discussed wage growth and the importance of collaborating with companies to foster their growth and improve wages. He emphasized plans to double food production and drive down costs.
Earlier today, Rustad announced a plan aimed at tackling the energy crisis which he claims is in Northwest B.C. This initiative focuses on enhancing local power generation to address what he says are rising energy costs in communities such as Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert.
His plan for efficient energy generation includes converting sustainable wood waste into energy which will support the forestry industry while providing a reliable energy source. Additionally, his proposal includes tapping into natural gas as a stable and cost-effective energy supply, which Rustad argues would significantly reduce energy costs for residents by minimizing natural gas delivery charges.
Rustad's visit to Vanderhoof also follows his recent withdrawal from the all-candidates debate organized by the local Chamber of Commerce.
