The sentencing hearing for a ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake man who pleaded guilty to sexual assault in November 2021 was postponed on September 27 due to insufficient court time. The hearing is now rescheduled for October 21, at 10:30 a.m. in courtroom 159 at Smithers Law Courts.
Previously, the accused was set to appear in court on June 3 to establish a sentencing date, but that was delayed from May 6 due to incomplete pre-sentencing reports.
Earlier, on January 22, the court hearing was adjourned to February 20. On that date, an extension was granted following a request for a psychological/psychiatric evaluation by the B.C. Prosecution Service, based on a medical professional's recommendation.
The accused cannot be named due to a publication ban aimed at protecting the victim's identity.
