Ryan Tom was voted in as the new chief of the Skin Tyee First Nation in its election on April 8.
Tom received 50 votes, with candidate Jade Irwin trailing behind with 36 votes according to the official results compiled by OneFeather, a First Nations election services company.
Five candidates ran for the two councillor seats and Shirley Wilson and Gabriel Lee Tom won with 46 and 49 votes respectively. The other candidates were Melissa Dyck, Destiney Michelle, and David Skin.
Rosemary Skin was the former chief along with two councillors Robert Skin and William Wissler. They were elected for the Skin Tyee First Nation office in 2019.
All candidates were nominated under the Skin Tyee Custom Election Code.
Under the election code, the band council is required to reside within a 50-mile radius of the band office during their term.
The elected chief and councillors will serve for the next four-year term at the Skin Tyee First Nation office.
