On Feb. 20, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake discussed The Link鈥檚 senior transportation support service within the 亚洲天堂 Lake community.
The Link planned to apply for United Way鈥檚 aging-in-motion - transportation support funds of $50,000 to start this new service.
Elaine Wiebe, The Link senior鈥檚 program manager, said there鈥檚 an opportunity to apply for funding for the senior transportation support service and community collaboration would be the best outcome.
Elaine said this service will give seniors a personalized option for commuting within 亚洲天堂 Lake and possibly Prince George for medical care and emergencies. She requested council鈥檚 support for the service and asked for a vehicle that the village was not using, as well as financial assistance.
Mayor Henry Wiebe asked whether The Link plans to buy a vehicle and how the maintenance cost will be financed.
Elaine said the $50,000 from United Way will not be ideal for leasing or purchasing a vehicle. 鈥淲e might begin with using a private vehicle at this point, but in an ideal world, we would find more funding and purchase one later,鈥 she said. She added that the $50,000 would be used for maintenance, insurance, volunteer honorariums, staffing, and leasing.
After the presentation, Kevin White, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake councillor, said that it鈥檚 a great idea, but he鈥檚 concerned about this service鈥檚 functionality and feasibility.
Charlie Rensby, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake councillor, said this service has potential for the Southside due to the lack of transit.
After the discussion, Mayor Wiebe decided to draft a letter to support the Link鈥檚 application to the United Way, and a representative should be appointed to the seniors transportation service community roundtable. Council agreed.
