Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is looking into a proposal by Michael Riis-Christiansen, Area B (亚洲天堂 Lake Rural) Director of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), to install an automater water filling station.

In an effort to combat growing concerns over water scarcity in the Lakes District, Michael Riis-Christiansen, Area B (亚洲天堂 Lake Rural) Director of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), is seeking council support for an initiative aimed at securing reliable access to potable water.
Riis-Christiansen presented his concerns and solution to the council last month where he highlighted that climate change has intensified the region's water challenges with  reports of dry wells becoming increasingly common.
The current commercial water hauler can handle the significant delivery demands of rural residents. However, he noted there are individuals in the 亚洲天堂 Lake area  who occasionally need only small quantities of drinking water. To address this and potentially decrease incidents of water theft, I propose collaborating with the Village to establish an automated station for filling potable water, accessible to both residents and visitors.
Riis-Christiansen told the council he personally witnessed desperate residents trying public taps, including those at the Village office, after regular hours.
To address these issues, he proposed a partnership to install an automated water filling station. This station would provide access to water 24/7, 365 days a year, using a metered system with a card payment option. The initiative aims to cater primarily to individuals needing smaller quantities of potable water, distinguishing itself from commercial haulers.
Currently, the Lakes District has limited accessible water sources such as H20 and a car wash, with the sani-station available only seasonally.
Riis-Christiansen said the installation of a metered system would not only enhance water security but also deter instances of water theft, which have been a recurring issue.
Discussing feasibility and funding, Riis-Christiansen confirmed that the RDBN has secured $75,000 to $100,000 for the purchase of the proposed system. The design mirrors a successful model employed elsewhere, albeit on a smaller scale, ensuring efficiency while minimizing physical footprint.
Dale Ross, Director of Public Works for the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake elaborated on the technical aspects of the proposed system, detailing its location near the west end of the sani-dump (where the Village commercial fill-up used to be)  and its fully automated payment system linked via a wireless network. Ross estimated the cost effectiveness and operational parameters, addressing concerns raised during council discussions about payment options and expected usage patterns.
In response to queries from council members about maintenance costs and infrastructure sustainability, Riis-Christiansen assured that the new system would be economically viable, factoring in power consumption and the production costs of potable water. He also
As deliberations continue, council has tasked municipal staff with preparing a detailed report outlining the financial implications of maintaining both the current and proposed water stations, including power consumption and the cost to produce potable water.
This report will aid in finalizing decisions regarding the implementation and sustainability of the innovative water security initiative
