On March 5, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake discussed housing initiatives and changes to the Local Government Act.

Amy Wainwright, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake planning consultant, said the province has set deadlines, the first being in June. These changes have no effect on 亚洲天堂 Lake due to its rural population size, but they鈥檙e still a requirement. She added that this gives an opportunity to use the grant funds from the province to review the village鈥檚 land use bylaws and development.

According to Local Government Act - Bill 44, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake needs to amend several land use bylaws and update the housing needs report. The provincial government made these changes to address the housing shortage currently experienced throughout the province. The province has released $158,000 in funding to the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake to help facilitate implementation and support these legislative requirements.

Mayor Henry Wiebe received the report and motioned to amend the land use bylaws. Council agreed.

CEPF grant application for Emergency Operations Centre exercise

Council supported submitting the CEPF grant application for the Emergency Operations Centre exercise to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for emergency response and operations centre training.

The emergency program coordinator will apply for a $25,000 grant through the UBCM Community Preparedness Fund to financially support a simulated emergency response exercise. The grant application requires a letter of support from council.

Charlie Rensby, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake councillor, motioned to support this grant, and Darrell Hill, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake councillor, seconded it. Mayor Wiebe asked whether everyone favoured this motion, and council agreed.

Economic development presentation

Dolores Funk, Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake economic development officer, gave a year-and-a-half review presentation on 亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 economic development.

The presentation covered the economic development at Richmond Loop, Village Heights, Gowan Road Property, the centennial celebration, the development of the visitor info centre, e-bikes, and more.

After the presentation, Mayor Wiebe appreciated all the projects that happened within the community, and council agreed.
