The wildfire burning just north of Kitimat has grown to 2.2 hectares.
BC Wildfire (BCWS) continues to respond with a ground crew of 19 members of consisting of firefights from BCWS, Kitimat Fire Department and Haisla Fire Department. They are assessing danger trees and tree-falling to create a fire break. Last night, an air tanker dropped two loads of retardant on the area.
There are still no evacuation alerts or orders associated with the fire.
It is now believed to have been human-caused.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently battling a blaze just outside Kitimat.
The fire, which is listed as out of control. was discovered this evening (Aug. 17), is just a few kilometres north of Hirsch Creek Park and estimated at 0.009 hectares.
Because of the proximity of the fire to the community of Kitimat, the wildfire service has initiated a full response. Ground crews have been dispatch and suppression from the air is underway.
There are currently no evacuation alerts or orders associated with this fire. The cause has not yet been determined.
