Four fires are actively burning in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, with a combined estimated size of 43,089 hectares. However, not all of this area is within the park boundaries, according to BC Wildfire Service.
It is not yet known how much wood has been burned by the wildfires. The provincial Ministry of Forests said it conducts wildfire burn intensity mapping for fires exceeding 100 hectares, however this process is only completed once the fires are fully extinguished.
Currently, mapping for the Nadina Forest District remains incomplete as many fires are still ongoing. The Lakes Timber Supply Area (TSA), which includes part of Tweedsmuir Park, is affected by these fires, with fire perimeters covering 39,714 hectares. Within this perimeter, there are 36,700 hectares of forested land holding over 3.7 million cubic meters of timber.
While not all forests within the perimeters are burned, the full impact on timber volume will be assessed after intensity mapping concludes at the end of the wildfire season.
In the meantime, significant smoke from these fires is affecting air quality and is being carried to other regions depending on wind conditions. As of Aug. 16, the Air Quality Index (AQI ) for 亚洲天堂 Lake was 124, which is three times above the recommended limit suggested by World Health Organization.
