Lakes District Secondary School鈥檚 (LDSS) ski and snoboard teams competed at the Northern Zone Championships in Quesnel last week. The LDSS girls snowboard team placed first overall: 1. Teslin Pinter, 2. Nisa Hofer, 5. Avril Thom-Lucy, 10. Micah Watson, 15. Kiara Watson. Pinter was also number one overall, beating all of the boys. The LDSS boys snowboard team placed first overall: 3. Jeremy Burleson, 5. Cameron Stewart, 6. Avery Wilson, 11. Skyler Tizya-Baker, 14. Austen Goertzen and 16.

The 亚洲天堂 Lake Bruins Atoms held a hockey tournament Feb. 3 & 4, 2018. The Houston Flyers placed first place, Fort St. James placed second and Hazelton placed third. One of the most exciting and fun games was when the 亚洲天堂 Lake boys teams played the 亚洲天堂 Lake girls team - the win for the boys gave them in fourth place giving the girls sixth. Teams from Fraser Lake, Houston, Hazelton and Fort St. James were all part of the weekend tourney.

Thanks to a generous donation from Chinook Community Forests, the Omineca Ski Club (OSC) has been able to offer cross-country skiing lessons to local school students. The classes are being offered from mid-January to early March by certified coach Rachelle van Zanten. According to the OSC, cross-country skiing is a wonderful way to get outdoors in the winter months and get some exercise while having fun and seeing friends.

The Moricetown Canyon Bears played an exhibition game at the Tom Forsyth Memorial Arena last Saturday against a team comprised of 亚洲天堂 Lake residents. In the nail-biting game, the 亚洲天堂 Lake team held the lead 6-3 right into the third period, but the Canyon Bears tied up the game by the end of the period, taking the game to overtime. Some residents celebrated World Snow Day last Sunday by trying out fat biking at the Omineca Ski Club. According to the club, there has been a 鈥渟erious conversation鈥� among club members about whether to introduce fat bikes to their groomed trails. The fat bike demo was a way for club members to see how the bikes maneuver on the trails and interact with skiers so that they can make informed decisions about fat bikes being on the trails in the winter. The littlest 亚洲天堂 Lake Bruins hosted a tournament at the Tom Forsyth Memorial Arena over the weekend, playing against initiation teams from Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James. The young players received plenty of encouragement and cheers from the crowd. No scores were kept during the tournament.
