A 16-year-old youth has been charged in a southern Alberta highway shooting that left a German tourist with a serious brain injury.
RCMP Cpl. Curtis Peters said the teen, who is from the Stoney Nakoda First Nation but can鈥檛 be named because of his age, is facing 14 charges, including attempted murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.
鈥淚nvestigators have located and seized the vehicle and the firearm which are both believed to have been involved in this offence,鈥 Peters said Tuesday.
Police wouldn鈥檛 discuss a possible motive and would only say that they don鈥檛 believe there was any conflict prior to the single shot being fired.
A statement from the First Nation said its members are feeling remorse and sadness and the Stoney Tribal Council shares the community鈥檚 concerns.
鈥淭hey deeply understand the seriousness of this situation which has cast a dark shadow on our Nation,鈥 the release said.
鈥淥ur thoughts and prayers are with all those involved through this unimaginable event.鈥
