The community is saddened by the death of a 35 year old local male.
At 11:43 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2011, ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP and North District Traffic Services responded to a report of a partially submerged vehicle in Francois Lake at Colleymount Rd.
Fire Rescue Services and BC Ambulance also responded to the accident.
A 2002 grey Jeep Grand Cherokee was found, partially submerged in Francois Lake a few kilometres past the ferry landing on Colleymount Rd.
The road was blocked off for a short time while police investigated the scene.
A male was located in the vehicle and was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the Lakes District Hospital.
Cpl. Chris Ivany from the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP detachment said the name of the deceased male is being withheld until the notification of his next of kin.
"No other occupants were located in the vehicle," Ivany said.
As a precaution the RCMP E Division dive team searched the area and ensured no other people were traveling in the vehicle and unaccounted for.
"Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident," Cpl. Ivany said.
North District RCMP Traffic Services are continuing the investigation and are requesting anyone with information about the incident to contact the RCMP.
