B.C. teen diagnosed with avian flu remains in stable but critical condition

B.C.'s top doctor Bonnie Henry said a B.C. teenager remains in "stable" but "critical" condition. while battling the effects of avian flu 

The Public Health Agency of Canada Nov. 13 confirmed the teenager receiving care at B.C. Children鈥檚 Hospital was Canada's first human case of avian influenza (also known as bird flu) caused by influenza A(H5N1) virus.

"This young person has received the best possible care from the clinical team at B.C. Children鈥檚 (Hospital) and is stable, though still very sick," Henry said during a media briefing Tuesday, Nov. 26. "Our thoughts remain with (the teenager and family) and we remain hopeful (as the teenager has) made some progress in the last few days..." 

Henry stressed that the current case remains the only one. 

"(There) is no evidence of transmission from this young person and no evidence of any other cases," she said.
