Search for ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake’s Centennial Artist
The Search for ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake’s Centennial Artist moves into high gear this summer, with a series of plein air painting events at Spirit Square, on the four Saturdays in July after Canada Day: July 8, 15, 22 and 29. Artists will compete in groups of four or five each Saturday, starting at 10:00 am. Look for details on the artists who will be competing in this week’s Lakes District ÑÇÖÞÌìÌÃ. The semi-final competition will take place in the CNC Garden on Saturday, August 12th at 10 a.m. And the final competition event takes place at the Lakes District Museum on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. The Search for ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake’s Centennial Artist is a project of the Lakes District Museum. Journey Through Time Magic Show
The ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Library is presenting magician Leif David performing a magic show on Wednesday, July 12 at 2 p.m. in the library basement (multipurpose room). Doors open 30 minutes before the show. Western Days
The Eagle Creek Recreation Committee presents Western Days on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday July 30 at the Eagle Creek Fairgrounds, two kms south of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake. Admission is $5 per person for ages 10 or older. Gates open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Events include live music, a free family dance on Saturday evening, a gymkhana, team roping, cowhide race, mounted shooting, barrels and poles, a horseshoe tournament, Bob’s Chainsaw Carving, a calf scramble and mutton busting for kids less than 40 pounds. Youth summer arts and crafts workshops
The Lakes District Arts Council is sponsoring youth arts and crafts workshops for kids 5 to 8 years old, and for youth 9-12 years of age at the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Public Library basement (multipurpose room) on Monday, Aug. 14 and Tuesday, Aug. 15. Registration fee is $10 per day per child, and bursaries are available. Watch for posters around town and ads in the Lakes District ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà as the days grow closer to the event. ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake 100 Centennial Celebrations
The summer’s biggest event will be the Village of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake’s 100th birthday celebrations. Centennial events happen from Thursday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 20 - most events are happening in and around Spirit Square. Watch for more information as the Centennial Celebrations approach. Special events for kids will include a return to ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake of Vancouver-based ventriloquist and puppeteer Kellie Haines, sponsored in part by the Lakes District Arts Council. It’s gonna be a big party: 100 years in the making. Hope to see you there.
77th Annual Lakes District Fall Fair
The 77th Annual Lakes District Fall Fair, including the Children’s Festival and Music Festival, happens at Eagle Creek Fairgrounds two kms south of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, from Friday, Sept. 8, 9 and 10. This year’s fair will feature a tug-of-war; heavy horse pull; stock dogs competition; a centennial table and heritage needlework display; an FMX Show – Free Style Moto X; team roping; a pet show; jackpot barrel race; pony cart rides; PG Museum railway; Hereford Mark of Excellence Show; vendor booths and food trucks, and a gymkhana and light horse events. The Children’s Festival will feature Vancouver-based children’s entertainer Norman Foote. Norman will also perform in two local elementary schools on Thursday and Friday before the Fall Fair, sponsored by the Lakes District Arts Council. Ya all come to the Fair.
