Patients at the Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre might have felt a bit chilly earlier this month as the hospital partially shut down its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system for about 48 hours.
Maintenance work on the hospital鈥檚 HVAC system had been scheduled to take place in August; however, it had to be pushed back due to wildfire activity in the region, according to Eryn Collins, a spokesperson for Northern Health.
鈥淭he work was undertaken this month, and required a larger system shutdown than anticipated,鈥 she told Lakes District 亚洲天堂. 鈥淯nfortunately, it also coincided with a cold spell in the region.鈥
Although the system shutdown was approximately 48 hours in duration, Collins says the main impact on facility temperatures was over about 24 hours over Wednesday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Sept. 13.
鈥淲hile a portion of the HVAC system continued to function while the work was being done, some parts of the facility were operating at a lower temperature than expected over the course of the work,鈥 she said.
鈥淚鈥檓 advised that patient rooms were not significantly impacted,鈥 she added. 鈥淭he impact was primarily in staff office spaces; space-heating units were provided to help mitigate this.鈥
According to Northern Health, the work is now complete and the HVAC system is functioning properly.
