亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 Centre Street repaving project did not go as planned.
Due to some challenges during paving, two sections of the street - the right-hand side of the street heading up the hill between Hwy. 16 and First Avenue, and the north side of the intersection at First Avenue - will have to be corrected in 2018.
鈥淲e did what we could, as fast we could, but there were a couple of issues that we will have to deal with in the 2018 paving season,鈥 said director of public works Dale Ross during a council meeting last week.
Ross explained that, due to wet conditions and the steep grade of the hill, an 鈥渋nadequate thickness of paving鈥 was applied in some areas.
As of last Thursday, a section of Centre Street - between Hwy. 16 and First Avenue - was still closed due to a thin layer of asphalt.
Contractor LB Paving began the project mid-October. Lakes District 亚洲天堂 asked Mayor Chris Beach, who now handles all Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake media inquiries, why this project started so late in the season. However, he did not respond by press time.
Every year council allocates approximately $160,000 to repave one street section in 亚洲天堂 Lake. This year council decided to to decide which street would be repaved. The Centre Street repaving project was only approved in June 2017.
The project was completed on budget and all repairs needed will be covered by warranty.
鈥淟B Paving will honour the warranty and has guaranteed the company will return in 2018 to fix the two problem areas,鈥 said Ross. 鈥淏ecause of the warranty, if other areas become a problem over the winter they will be fixed as well.鈥
鈥淭he rest of the project is complete and the public works crew will paint the sidewalk markings as early as possible in 2018,鈥 he added.
Although council鈥檚 original plan was to repave sections of Centre Street and Fifth Avenue this year, after council decided to only repave a portion of Centre Street and to mark a pedestrian passage.
