Cheslatta Carrier Nation (CCN) will not be holding an election this year since the current chief and council were re-elected by acclamation last week.

Chief Corrina Leween and councillors Hazel Burt and Ted Jack were the only candidates that came forward at the nomination meeting held at the CCN office on April 10, 2017.

鈥淎s elected leader of my community, I am pleased with the results of the nomination,鈥� said Chief Leween. 鈥淚t is an honour as chief to have been re-elected by acclamation.

鈥淭his is especially pleasing as there is much work left to do with reconciliation with the provincial government as well as other projects in the works.鈥�

Last September Cheslatta and the province signed a framework agreement designed to help heal historic wounds and shape a better future. Through the framework agreement, CCN and the province have been exploring economic opportunities in the resource sector, power infrastructure to support future industrial development, as well as cultural, heritage and training initiatives.

鈥淭he momentum will not be interrupted and we can carry on with completion of negotiations and our community鈥檚 comprehensive plan that includes a healing component,鈥� said Chief Leween.

鈥淚t is vital that as leaders we work toward providing support behind healing, culture revitalization, language, education, economic development and infrastructure such as housing,鈥� she continued.

鈥淭here is much work to do; however, I鈥檓 positive that with the support from the community and hard work we will accomplish the tasks at hand,鈥� she added. 鈥淲e will continue to work for the betterment of the Cheslatta people and our community as a whole.鈥�
