With the Spring breakup here, TC Energy鈥檚 Coastal GasLink pipeline work is intensifying and expected to conclude this Fall in the 亚洲天堂 Lake section. The 63-kilometre-long Section 6, extending from south of 亚洲天堂 Lake to the south of Houston, has already seen 97.6 percent of the pipe installed.

Kiel Giddens, public affairs manager with TC Energy provided an update to Lakes District 亚洲天堂, stating, 鈥淲e are really reaching milestones and are nearing 89 per cent completion on the project. There is still work to be done this year, and as we approach the spring breakup, there will be increased activity during the summer. But getting into the Fall, we will get ready to wrap up.鈥�

Giddens also mentioned that while the pipeline installation work will wrap up, reclamation work will continue for some time, extending into 2024. He added, 鈥淭here will be a much-reduced workforce than what people are used to.鈥�

During the summer, the 7 Mile Lodge will provide full accommodations until early Fall. However, as the project approaches completion in section 6, CGL will partially decommission the lodge, reducing it to 300 beds, and relocating workers to the Huckleberry Lodge, which is closer to the final part of this section.

鈥淲e are currently in discussions between Michels Canada and CGL on how decommissioning of the 7 Mile Lodge will unfold, but this will essentially include completely dismantling the lodge and the land reclaimed back to its natural state. We will also have restoration work done there, and environmentally you won鈥檛 notice that there was once a lodge there.鈥�

Since the project started, the pipeline work has not only resulted in more influx of people, specifically the pipeline workers to the local businesses but has also resulted in several contributions made by CGL and the pipeline workers to the 亚洲天堂 Lake community.

鈥淲e want to leave a legacy in the places where we have worked, and the contributions TC Energy has made in Northern B.C. will result in lasting changes within the communities,鈥� said Giddens, highlighting one such successful collaboration between Michels Canada, CGL, and the 亚洲天堂 Lake community, during the fishing derby which resulted in raising $134,000.

Some of the other contributions include $50,000 towards the St. John鈥檚 Heritage Church Redevelopment, $15,000 to Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band for cold storage and generators, $15,000 towards the 亚洲天堂 Lake Fire Training Society training facility project and $5,000 to the Ride 亚洲天堂 Mountain Biking Association towards new mountain biking trail development.

鈥淎nd that doesn鈥檛 go away once we go away. Once we are operational, TC Energy will still want to be part of the community events, not in as many numbers because the workers will have left, but we will still show up and be a part of the community in some way.鈥�

Giddens concluded by expressing gratitude to the communities that have welcomed them as neighbours, stating, 鈥淲e wouldn鈥檛 have got to where we are today without the communities that have welcomed us as neighbours. The relationships we have built have been tremendous; and as we get to the milestones.鈥�
