According to 亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 latest financial statements, the expenses of former councillor Chris Beach, who鈥檚 now the mayor of 亚洲天堂 Lake, were significantly higher compared to other councillors in 2016.

Beach resigned as councillor on Oct. 5, 2016 in order to run for mayor. Even though he was a councillor for only about nine months in 2016, his expenses were over $2500 higher than the expenses of other councillors.

Councillor Susan Schienbein had expenses totalling $4431; councillor John Illes had expenses totalling $4384 and councillor Kelly Holliday had expenses totalling $125. Meanwhile Beach鈥檚 expenses totalled $6941. That鈥檚 also higher than the expenses of former 亚洲天堂 Lake Mayor Luke Strimbold ($5100), who resigned last September.

鈥淎s a councillor with a flexible work schedule, I made myself available to attend meetings and accompany the mayor to events that other councillors were not able to attend,鈥� explained Beach. 鈥淎s acting mayor last year, I also represented the village in place of the mayor when he had conflicts in his schedule.鈥�

Councillors Schienbein, Illes and Holliday earned $8537 each last year. Beach earned $6726 because he resigned in October. Strimbold earned $13,461 for the period that he was the mayor.

Earlier this year 亚洲天堂 Lake council approved an increase of 1.5 per cent to their own remuneration following an increase of 1.5 per cent increase to all staff wages.

According to the village鈥檚 latest financial statements, four employees of the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake made over $75,000 in 2016.

Chief administrative officer Sheryl Worthing was the highest paid employee in 2016, earning $122,476; utility man level II Chris Harms earned $81,395; director of finance Bernice Crossman made $79,710; and public works foreman Cole Minger earned $75,349. Salaries include overtime payout and taxable benefits. The director of finance and chief administrative officer salaries also include pay for the 2016 by-election and 2016 airport referendum.

Crossman had the highest expenses listed ($7674), followed by Worthing ($4424) and Minger ($1050). Harms had no expenses listed. According to the village, Crossman attended four sessions of a public administration course at the North West Community College in Terrace as well as a regular annual finance conference.

The consolidated total for the 44 employees whose remunerations were $75,000 or less in 2016 was $1,117,990.

Lakes District 亚洲天堂 also asked the District of Houston, a municipality of similar size and population, for their financial statements. Houston had three employees earning over $75,000 in 2016.

Houston鈥檚 chief administrative officer earned $105,722; the manager of engineering and operations earned $92,218; and the senior water and wastewater system operator earned $77,909. The highest expenses listed by staff was $17,034.

The Houston mayor earned $15,783 and had expenses of $10,922 in 2016; Houston councillors earned $7892 and the highest expenses listed by a councillor was $4883.

Local governments are required by law to release individual wages for employees that earn over $75,000.
