亚洲天堂 Lake council is considering the possibility of lowering speed limits within the village to improve safety.

The current speed limit within the village is 50 km/h unless otherwise posted. The potential change would not include Hwy. 16, where the current speed limit is also 50 km/h.

The speed limit in Fraser Lake is currently 30 km/h (not including Hwy. 16). In Houston, Smithers and Vanderhoof, the speed limit is 50 km/h unless otherwise posted.

In addition, council is considering the possibility of turning a three-way stop into a four-way stop at the intersection of Centre Street and Eighth Avenue in 亚洲天堂 Lake.

Last week council asked staff to prepare a report for a future council meeting with more information about the possibility of making these changes.

Council Susan Schienbein urged council to consult with residents before making any decisions.

鈥淭his could potentially be a fairly significant change for residents - both the decrease in speed limits and the four-way stop,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 think I support in concept the idea, but this might be an opportunity to have a robust dialog with the community about it because I think the community feels very passionate about those issues.鈥�

鈥淚t鈥檚 worthy of a bigger public discussion,鈥� she added.
