Nee Tahi Buhn鈥檚 byelection date, originally scheduled for Sept. 5, has been extended after no candidates were chosen during a nomination meeting.

Although a nomination meeting to elect a new councillor was held on Aug. 20 at the Nee Tahi Buhn鈥檚 band office, no candidates were 鈥減roperly nominated and seconded,鈥 according to electoral officer Lawrence Lewis.

鈥淚t was decided in consultation with the band that the most efficient and cost-effective next step was to extend the vote period/date, and allow for nominations and seconds to be filed using a prescribed form and process via fax or email,鈥 explained Lewis.

The byelection period/date has now been extended to Sept. 23, 2017.

Nee Tahi Buhn鈥檚 current council consists of Chief Ray Morris, deputy chief Cody Reid and councillor Patricia Prince. The byelection will seek to replace councillor Hayley Neilsen, who resigned earlier this year. The current term ends in November 2018.

Nee Tahi Buhn held another byelection last March after Charity Morris resigned to devote more time to her baby and family. Patricia Prince became the new councillor after receiving 12 votes.

Eligible electors will be able to vote in person - from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the band office - or electronically - by registering online at https://onefeather.ca/nations/neetahibuhn. Online voters must have a personal email address, provide their date of birth and their 10-digit registry (status) number. There will be no advance poll.
